Frequently Asked Questions
What services does Katherine Flechaus Counseling offer?
Katherine Flechaus Counseling provides virtual therapy for adults in Florida and New York. I specialize in treating anxiety and depression related to impostor syndrome, low self-esteem, negative thinking, life transitions, and relationship issues such as boundary-setting, codependency, and emotional abuse. Services are personalized and rooted in evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
What makes Katherine Flechaus Counseling different?
My practice is grounded in respect, compassion, and a whole-person approach. I don’t believe in judgment—only in your capacity for growth and healing. Together, we explore patterns, build insight, and develop realistic strategies that align with your values and help you feel more in control of your life.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults navigating personal or professional challenges—whether you're struggling with anxiety, feeling stuck in negative thinking, recovering from toxic relationships, or managing major life changes like divorce, career shifts, or aging. My clients are often reflective, growth-oriented, and seeking lasting change.
Are sessions in-person or virtual?
All sessions are provided via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth. You can attend sessions from the comfort of your own space, anywhere in Florida or New York. Virtual therapy reduces barriers to support by eliminating the need to travel between home, work, and a therapy office.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, or simply uncertain about your next steps, therapy can help you gain clarity, process your experiences, and move forward with intention. A consultation can help us determine if I’m the right fit for your needs.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and how is it used in your practice?
CBT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. In my practice, CBT is used to understand how your thoughts influence your emotions and choices—and to develop practical tools for healing, growth, and more balanced decision-making.
What can I expect in the first session?
Our first session is a collaborative conversation where we’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, and what you’re hoping to work through. There are no right or wrong answers, and no pressure—just space to be heard. We’ll also go over scheduling, structure, and next steps.
Do you take insurance?
I am in-network with select insurance providers. My HIPAA-compliant platform, Alma, will verify your insurance eligibility and inform you of any out-of-pocket expenses.
For those out of network, without coverage, or choosing not to utilize insurance, I also offer affordable private-pay options.
Does a therapist have to be licensed?
Yes. Therapists must be licensed in the state where their clients reside. I am licensed to practice in New York and Florida, which is why I can only work with clients living in these states. You can verify a therapist’s license through your state’s licensing board.
Is what I say in therapy confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share remains private, with a few legal exceptions such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by a court. I’ll explain confidentiality in detail during our first session so you feel safe and informed.
